About Us

Hi! I’m Tarissa, the face behind Cult Suri. In a world that often feels like it doesn't appreciate thoughtfulness or details, I wanted to build something with quality that doesn’t sacrifice its beauty.

Four years and 20 collections later, it's safe to say we've found a tight-knit community of people who feel the same way. Thank you for making this possible.

Cult Suri has been self-funded from the beginning, with no outside investment - which means we get to do things our way, at our pace. My goal from day one has been to make pieces for the people who want them, those who notice the quality in a stitch or a fold and don’t want corners cut.

Cult Suri is a love letter to the dreamers. We exist to champion a future that's meaningful and functional, and to make beautiful, intricate pieces that bring a smile to your face when you put them on.

The Idea

Cult Suri was born at 1 AM, standing in front of my closet with everything turned inside out.

I'd been loving the style of milkmaid tops but couldn’t find anything nearby. So I ordered one similar version from a local site - it arrived looking nothing like the photo and all wrong. I gave up and spent the next few hours scrolling online instead.

This wasn't the first time - most of what I ordered online disappointed the same way. Some had fabric so thin it basically felt like tissue, other times it looked absolutely nothing like the photo, and once I couldn't even pull on a top because it didn't come with a zipper.

The launch

By 2022, I still didn't find an answer to that gap in the Southeast Asian market. My friends were shipping in pieces from popular Western brands overseas, or buying exclusively from foreign labels - nobody was representing us. So Cult Suri started as a passion project, built to fix something this painful issue that the market didn’t seem to care about - stylish clothes that still fit, flattered, and didn't feel fragile to the touch.

"But does the world need another clothing brand?"

I sat with that question for months. I didn't have an answer for what would make me different nor did I have any formal experience in the fashion industry to fall back on. But I did know one thing - as the only person calling the shots on something this new, I could build it the right way from day one.

  • The Journey

My first pieces were bad - one of our first tops came out see-through, and we scrapped it, forcing the factory to resew everything with lining at our cost. This happened more than once, thanks to my indecisiveness, idealism, and refusal to tolerate "good enough'. But I learned: certain fabrics suit certain silhouettes, certain tops need certain zips, strap length matters, gold or silver hardware, how a dress feels in AC versus in the heat. Getting it right takes forever when you won't compromise 0 including on finding the right factory.

  • The Factory

Finding a factory that shared our values was the biggest blessing of all. I went door to door until we found ours: a family-run, 10-person production house in Java. We've worked together long enough that they now manufacture exclusively for Cult Suri, and we still meet for lunch every other month. Our pieces aren't easy to sew - ruffles, boning, bra cups, hidden pockets, often all in one garment - and our production house works with stay-at-home mothers looking for extra income. It shows - they have incredible patience, more care and better stitching on these intricate designs.

  • Cult Suri Today

Four years in, we're a small but growing team of 6 — mostly women, working alongside incredibly talented partners and manufacturers. We've held events across Southeast Asia, and I've gotten to meet so many of you in person. I don't personally carry your orders to the post office anymore (thank you, fulfillment team!), but a lot has stayed the same - we still refuse to compromise between design and function, we still reach for natural fibres whenever we can, and we still have a long way to go. But we're in it.

    - Love, Tarissa
